Je suis Sherri.
Dr Sherri Tenpenny, an anti-vaccination campaigner, recently had to cancel a speaking tour of Australia.
Initially, her visit was under threat due to a clamour for her visa application to be denied.
She eventually cancelled due to intimidation from pro-vaccination interests.

From the ABC website;
"American anti-vaccination campaigner Dr Sherri Tenpenny has cancelled her speaking tour of Australia amid security concerns.

The controversial speaker had booked appearances in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Gold Coast, however a number of venues had cancelled because of mounting complaints from the public.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Dr Tenpenny said that "pro-vaccine extremists had made continual, anonymous threats of vandalism and violence" and that organisers could no longer guarantee the safety of attendees.

Fellow anti-vaccination campaigner Australian Stephanie Messenger had been due to speak with Dr Tenpenny and had organised much of the tour.

"Some people were planning to bring babies," she said in the Facebook statement.

"The threats have been persistent.

"We are not able to insure that the attendees would be safe from harm."

Ms Messenger also claimed that "pro-vaccine extremists have been sabotaging the venues and have threatened to disrupt the normal business operations of the locations during the meetings"."

"Who gives a shit?", I hear you ask.

Well, anyone that cared about Charlie's right to freedom of speech and expression, I would hope.
Disagree all you like, but intimidation and coercion are out of bounds.

The media in this country didn't apply the same standard, unfortunately.

Have I spelled "hypocrisy" correctly?

Bit of a difference between publishing some cartoons and telling people to put the children's lives in danger? Freedom of speech is great but people shouldn't be able to peddle dangerous pseudo science.

Put people's lives in danger? Pseudo science?

Try telling that to the parents of babies whose lives are wrecked by this stuff.

Besides, people can ignore what she has to say if they so wish.
There's talk in the US of forcing people to be vaccinated.
Now THAT is dangerous.

Try telling that to children and adults who for medical reason can't be vaccinated but also can no longer have the safety of herd immunity thanks to scaremongering, attention-seeking pseudoscience dickhead "antivaccers".

You do realise before vaccines, children died of now preventable illnesses (thanks to vaccines) on a huge scale and that's the very reason vaccines were invented?

Re: Je suis Sherri.
I didn't understand the first paragraph so I won't try telling anyone that.

And, yes, I know about people dying.

The debate about vaccines, as I understand it, is with regard to multiple immunisations in one hit (MMR), plus the use of mercury as a preservative.

However, the point being made here is to do with freedom of choice (the right to not have the vaccines) and freedom of speech.
When Big Pharma wants to protect its profits, all hell will be let loose on anyone that might threaten that.

Can I just add a quick 'Hurrah' for Big Pharma and all the money I've made from it?

My wife is very anti vaccines and bangs on about it regularly.

My eldest son has been vaccinated but my youngest hasn't.

Fingers crossed!

Measles, Mumps, Whooping cough, Polio, Rubella where all nearly a thing of the past. Even Polio was found in decreasing cases around the world. Until the Anti-Vaxers kicked off.

Apparently taking preventable medicines is wrong and dangerous, but feeding your kids processd foods and relying on well placed Chakra Crystals is OK...

Anti-Vaxers endanger other peoples kids....that make them cunts.

Get him vaccinated, absolutely no scientific reason not to, thankfully as the percentage of vaccinated children in this country is so high your boy has what is called herd immunity but it's not certain. Anti vaccers reasoning is no more valid than homeopathy or astrology.

Some children for medical reasons cannot be vaccinated, they are protected by the fact that 95% + other children are, if that rate goes down the chance of an outbreak of a deadly disease increases and that child is unnecessarily at more risk, through no fault of it's parents or itself.

Re: Je suis Sherri.
Or babies that haven't been vaccinated yet, thus herd immunity preventing outbreaks is there only protection. One of the reasons infant mortality was once so much higher than today.

Firstly by promoting the idea and scaring people with pseudo-science so they are fearful of getting their kids done.

Secondly, Babies and young children who havent had the chance of vaccination become endangered. There has been a rise in babies 6 months and under dying from Measels and Whooping Cough because of its re introduction.

Thirdly, some people are allergic to Vaccines therefore they need as much protection as possible. We dont offer that by letting these horrible diseases make a comeback because of WooWoo.

Finally. A young Girl who has the MMR not only protects herself but any future pre natal child that she carries from not only the disease but the birth defects associated with those diseases.

Or we could all believe in tenuous quackery and watch all the good work that vaccination has done in the world, all come undone.
